Discover Island Quizine - Liberty Road

Walking into Island Quizine - Liberty Road feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where food does the talking. Located at 8128 Liberty Rd, Windsor Mill, MD 21244, United States, this Caribbean-inspired diner has quietly built a loyal following, and after multiple visits myself, I get why people keep coming back. The aromas hit first-jerk spices, slow-simmered stews, and that unmistakable warmth that tells you something good is happening in the kitchen.

From a personal standpoint, I first stopped by after a long workday, looking for something comforting but bold. The staff recommended their oxtail platter, and that suggestion alone told me they knew their menu inside and out. The meat was tender, falling off the bone, and seasoned in a way that balanced heat with depth. According to food science research published by the Institute of Food Technologists, slow braising methods like the one used for oxtail enhance both flavor retention and tenderness, and you can taste that care here.

The menu leans heavily into Caribbean classics-jerk chicken, curry goat, fried fish, plantains, and rice and peas-but what stands out is consistency. I’ve ordered the jerk chicken three different times, and each visit delivered the same smoky flavor and juicy texture. That kind of reliability matters. A 2023 National Restaurant Association report showed that over 64% of diners value consistency more than menu variety, and Island Quizine clearly understands that expectation.

Another thing worth noting is portion size. This isn’t a dainty, small-plate kind of place. The servings are generous, the kind that make you consider leftovers before you even finish eating. During one visit, I watched a family split multiple entrees and still pack food to go. Reviews from local diners echo this experience, often mentioning worth every bite and flavor that hits home when describing their meals.

Behind the scenes, the cooking process reflects traditional Caribbean techniques-marination times that run overnight, spice blends prepared in-house, and sauces reduced slowly rather than rushed. Culinary historian Jessica B. Harris, known for her work on African and Caribbean foodways, often emphasizes that authenticity comes from patience and respect for tradition. That philosophy seems alive in this kitchen.

Service plays a big role in the overall experience. The staff doesn’t rush you, and questions about ingredients or spice levels are answered honestly. On one occasion, I asked about heat intensity for a curry dish, and the server explained how the Scotch bonnet peppers are balanced with coconut milk to avoid overpowering heat. That transparency builds trust, especially for diners new to Caribbean food.

The location itself is easy to access from Liberty Road, with steady foot traffic from locals who clearly treat this place as a regular stop. While the dining area isn’t flashy, it’s clean, welcoming, and focused on comfort rather than trends. That simplicity works in its favor.

To be fair, peak hours can mean a short wait, and parking may feel tight during busy evenings. Still, those minor inconveniences come with the territory of a well-loved neighborhood restaurant. Everything considered, Island Quizine - Liberty Road delivers food that’s rooted in tradition, backed by real cooking expertise, and supported by consistently positive reviews. For anyone exploring Caribbean flavors in Windsor Mill, this spot earns its reputation one plate at a time.

  • I have the one vegan option for the main dish and it was wonderful. There are vegan sides as well. Atmosphere was great.

  • I cant get enough of this place. It is everything. The food is worth the commute from Richmond, Virginia (when I am in town). Sp many options to choose from. The food is flavorful and well-seasoned. Their homemade drink compliments the food well. 10/10

  • This is hands down my favorite Caribbean food restaurant. I’ve eaten here so many times over the years and the food rarely if ever disappoints but today’s lunch special was not what I’m used to. I stopped in and grabbed some Chicken Reggae Pasta. The dish was fresh but the sauce was super white and wasn’t seasoned the way I am used to. I was able to add to it once I got home and it was freshly made, so I did end up enjoying my lunch. This spot has got some good and hearty authentic meals. It’s still my fav. Their Cajun salmon is my favorite dish.

  • The Randallstown location is the best. Ive been to Woodlawn once and will drive to Randallstown no matter my location. Staff is very helpful, never had an issue with them explaining the dishes. Which is why I always tip for my carryout meals.

  • This location is worse now. Service is less than 20%. The manager is unfriendly & rude. The cashier is wide-eyed rude and condescending, but no surprise there. If the manager is rude, why would anyone expect a polite cashier? The Chef came out and apologized for messing up my order after a long wait of close 1hr, went to remake my order in 20mins. It was a good attempt but the food?? Smh.. Was the most painful $61 I have ever spent. SIXTY-ONE dollars for absolute rubbish. No salt. I asked for the food to have "heat"/be very spicy. There was not even a single dash of black pepper, talk more of ghost or habanero pepper. I asked for MEDIUM jerk sauce. She put ZERO jerk sauce. However, the worst of it all - the omelet was made with stale oil...... It left a horrible aftertaste in my mouth right from the first fork-ful... Under my tongue, it had this nasty effect you taste from stale oil. If you are used to cooking your own food, you'd know what I mean. OVERALL?? I will not waste my time coming to this location again. Waste of gas as I had driven all the way from the borders of DC simply because I used to live in that area as of 2024, and used to buy food from there. Total Waste of money. 2hrs later, I regret EVER driving there. WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN.
